Philadelphia's Garth Snow. Name the goaltender who yielded Lemieux's

scored the first playoff goal-by-a-goaltender in April of 1989, against the
Washington Capitals.
THREE-POINT QUESTION: Among people who have played goal at the National
Hockey League level, name the last to win the Patrick Trophy.
CORRECT ANSWER: Emile Francis was the last former goaltender to win the
Patrick Trophy, back in 1982.
FIVE-POINT QUESTION: When Teemu Selanne broke Mike Bossy's N.H.L. record
for goals scored by a rookie, who was the opposing netminder?
CORRECT ANSWER: Stephane Fiset was the goaltender who yielded a
hat-trick to Teemu Selanne, as he broke Mike Bossy's N.H.L. rookie record for
goals.
- GOALTENDER TRIVIA #3.26:
TWO-POINT QUESTION: Last season, this goaltender stopped the first
overtime penalty shot in Stanley Cup playoff history. Name him.
CORRECT ANSWER: When Penguins defenseman Chris Tamer knocked his net off
the moorings in the second overtime of the first-round class between
Pittsburgh and Washington, goaltender Ken Wregget was the man who stopped the
resulting Joe Juneau penalty shot. Petr Nedved scored the game-winner in the
fourth overtime.
THREE-POINT QUESTION: This season, New Jersey's Martin Brodeur earned
ten shutouts. Name the last goaltender to record double-digit shutouts in one
N.H.L. regular season.
CORRECT ANSWER: The last goaltender to record double-digit shutouts was
the Montreal Canadiens' Ken Dryden, who whitewashed opponents on ten occasions
in 1976-77.
FIVE-POINT QUESTION: Among Calder Trophy-winning goaltenders, name the
most recent first-round N.H.L. entry-draft selection.
CORRECT ANSWER: Martin Brodeur, selected 20th in the 1990 N.H.L. entry

Canadiens earned his 200th N.H.L. victory. Which opposing goaltender did he

led by number thirty-four, John Vanbiesbrouck.
- GOALTENDER TRIVIA #3.24:
TWO-POINT QUESTION: Over the course of the current season, Patrick Roy
has set the Nordiques/Avalanche franchise record for the most wins by one
goaltender in a season. Who held the record previously?
CORRECT ANSWER: Daniel Bouchard set the Avalanche franchise record with
29 regular-season victories in 1983-84, and Ron Hextall tied it during his
season with the Nordiques. Patrick Roy now holds the record, at 37 (and
counting).
THREE-POINT QUESTION: Name the goaltenders of record the last time the
St. Louis Blues defeated the Philadelphia Flyers.
CORRECT ANSWER: What I meant here was, name the goaltenders of record
the last time before yesterday (3/30/97) that St. Louis defeated Philadelphia.
However, I didn't say that, so I grudgingly accepted Grant Fuhr and Ron
Hextall as answers. The goaltenders I was looking for were the netminders
in the Halloween 1992 tilt, where Curtis Joseph and the St. Louis Blues
defeated Dominic Roussel's Flyers 6-4. Stephane Beauregard also appeared
in net for Philadelphia, on the same night that Patrick Roy earned his 200th
N.H.L. victory.
FIVE-POINT QUESTION: This goaltender, who grew up in Ottawa and earned
his clever nickname before he even played an N.H.L. game, had an uncle
(defenseman), father (defenseman), and brother (forward), who all played in
the National Hockey League. Name him.
CORRECT ANSWER: Gary Smith, whose uncle Roger played for the
Philadelphia Quakers, father Des played for the Maroons, Canadiens, Blackhawks,
and Bruins, and brother Brian played for the Kings and North Stars, earned the
nickname "Suitcase" not for his proficiency at switching N.H.L. teams, but
because he was, in essense, the Toronto Maple Leaf farm club emergency
goaltender.
