WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

"The Canadiens have been pleasantly surprised by Vokoun, who was a late pick, but impressed J.C. Tremblay, the team's former European scout. Vokoun has a classic stand-up style, good anticipation, covers the angles well and challenges the shooters. Because he relies on angles and reflexes, he must be quick and that means he must work more on his conditioning. Vokoun started a game last season against the Philadelphia Flyers, but was removed after allowing four first period goals." (Herb Zurkowsky, The Hockey News Future Watch 1998)

"Vokoun was probably the most surprising Predator last season. Picked up as an afterthought, Vokoun worked his way up the depth chart and finished the year as a co-starter with Dunham. Vokoun's superior athleticism gives he a chance at virtually every scoring opportunity. The Czech plays in the mold of his countryman Dominik Hasek. The Predators struck gold with Vokoun, as he could become the No. 1 goaltender within a year or two. He has the potential to be great, although it's highly unlikely he can duplicate Hasek's exploits." (The Sports Forecaster 1999-2000, p. 164)

"A solid but probable career backup, Vokoun was shell-shocked and started off horribly last season, going winless in his first nine outings while posting an unimpressive 3.54 GAA before heading off to Milwaukee of the IHL. Fortunately, he came back and won his first four decisions, winning NHL Player of the Week honors in the process. Vokoun's early season troubles in 1999-2000 do not reflect his talent level. He forms an excellent goaltending duo with Mike Dunham. Only in his mid-20s, Vokoun has yet to hit his prime." (The Sports Forecaster 2000-01, p. 156)

"The unorthodox Czech is one of the best backup netminders in the NHL. In fact, Vokoun proved his mettle last season by starting 15 straight games for the injured Mike Dunham. He displays a great glove hand and a tough demeanor. He is very good at bouncing right back after a poor performance. Vokoun isn't as consistent as he could be but has a knack for making big saves at the right time. The former Habs farmhand cannot let up for a minute this season due to Nashville's deep goaltending stable. However, Vokoun should be safe if he continues to display the ability to fill in admirably whenever Dunham goes down." (The Sports Forecaster 2001-02, p. 162)

"At times, the underrated Czech looks ready to become a No. 1 goalie. However, Vokoun also has bad stretches where he couldn't stop a beach ball. He has battled inconsistency since being taken in the 1998 Expansion Draft from the Canadiens organization. To his credit, he bounces back well from rough performances. His glove hand is his calling card while his unorthodox style serves him well. For now, Vokoun is firmly entrenched as Dunham's backup in Nashville. However, should he become more consistent, the talented 26-year-old may get a starting gig somewhere else." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 156)

"Vokoun was Nashville's MVP in 2003-04. He followed that up with sound performances for the Czech Republic at both the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and 2005 IIHF World hockey championships. Though not very big, Vokoun is pretty much an angles goalie that lets the puck hit him. He is highly respected by his teammates." (The Sports Forecaster 2005-06, p. 105)
