WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:
"He was the 138th player selected in the N.H.L. draft, and his seventh-round selection
by the Montreal Canadiens was considered something of a long shot, but Montreal officials
say they are confident that Vladislav Tretiak, the star Soviet goaltender, will switch to
a Canadien uniform after the Winter Olympics. Serge Savard, the Canadiens' general manager,
said he and other Montreal officials would attend the Winter Games in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia,
and might go to Moscow afterward in an effort to sign the 31-year-old star."
