WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

"There are those who believe Theodore should be playing in the NHL now after he recorded Montreal's only victory against the New Jersey Devils in the opening round of last season's playoffs. But the organization would rather see him accumulating some mileage with the Fredericton Canadiens than sitting on the bench in Montreal. Theodore handles the pressure well and has a good temperament for a goalie - two characteristics that will come in handy in Montreal. He's self-confident and sound technically although, at 5-foot-11 and 179 pounds, isn't that big and must work harder on covering his angles better." (Herb Zurkowsky, The Hockey News Future Watch 1998)

"Theodore has come to the Canadiens' rescue in each of the last two playoff seasons, but struggled at the NHL level this season. With veteran goalie Jeff Hackett getting most of the work in Montreal, Theodore has spent most of the year in the minors. Although he isn't big at 5-foot-11 and 182 pounds, he makes up for it with his quickness and mental resilience. Theodore wants to win badly and places enormous pressure on himself instead of simply worrying about stopping the puck." (Herb Zurkowsky, The Hockey News Future Watch 1999)

"Became Montreal's goalie of the future when Thibault was traded. Needs work. His save percentage was a horrible .877 last year and his record 4-12. A reflex goaltender who has a lot of confidence in his game. Will remain Montreal's goalie of the future unless Mathieu Garon steals the job away from him. This year is a key one on the learning curve for Theodore. He'll learn from Hackett and will have to continue to improve or he will be the third stringer behind Garon." (The Sports Forecaster 1999-2000, p. 84)

"Though he only played 30 games, Theodore certainly made some noise last season. Aside from an excellent goals-against average and save percentage, the young goaltender recorded five shutouts. While he did accept his role as a backup last season, the meter is running as far as he's concerned. Theodore is poised to become the next brilliant NHL goalkeeper to come from the Quebec junior ranks. However, he faces the daunting task of beating out an established netminder in Hackett." (The Sports Forecaster 2000-01, p. 73)

"The young netminder was arguably the Habs' best player last season. While his numbers weren't as good as the previous year, Theodore proved he could hold the fort as the team's No. 1 goaltender during the prolonged absence of Jeff Hackett. The right-handed goaltender also displayed a flair for the dramatic, becoming the first goalkeeper in Canadiens history to score a goal. All the 5-10 182-pounder needs to do now is prove he can become a consistent winner in the NHL. Theodore and Hackett will continue to battle for the top spot. Neither man wants to play second fiddle, but Theodore should have a slight edge based on last year's performance, age and salary." (The Sports Forecaster 2001-02, p. 75)

"The 2002 Hart and Vezina Trophy winner finally emerged as the undisputed No. 1 man in Montreal. All Theodore did was finish first in save precentage, tied for second in shutouts and fourth in goals-against average. He was also named to his first NHL All-Star Game. His quick feet give him a chance to save every shot. He never quits on a play, which often leads to spectacular saves. He can be beat upstairs, however. It's difficult to imagine Theodore putting up similar numbers two years in a row. However, he shouldn't suffer a major drop-off and is now a full-fledged member of the NHL's goaltending elite." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 73)

"The Habs franchise player performed well for Djurgardens IF during the lockout, but is still seeking the form that earned him both Vezina and Hart trophy honors in 2001-02. Theodore should again see action in 60-plus games, especially with the uncertain status of backup netminder Cristobal Huet." (The Sports Forecaster 2005-06, p. 105)
