• Nick was the son of a wealthy Canadian hotel owner. After retirement in 1985, Nick worked as an executive in his family's hotel business.
• On June 7, 2002, Nick purchased (from Don Cherry) the Ontario Hockey League's Missisauga Ice Dogs for a reported $3.7 million Canadian. He sold the team, to Chris Pronger and Mario Forgione, on February 27, 2003 in order to concenrate on bringing a franchise back to his hometown of Niagara Falls.
