WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:
"He impressed scouts with his play for Finland in the 2001 World Championship,
but spent the first part of this season rehabilitating from knee surgery. The
layoff and adjustment to North America led to a slow start with Chicago. But
Nurminen got hot, posting consecutive shutouts at one point. The Thrashers
recalled him after a groin injury to goalie Damian
Rhodes. In his NHL debut, he came off the bench to stop 25 of 28 shots in
a loss to Toronto." (Jeff Schultz, The Hockey News Future Watch 2002)
"Nurminen has a good chance to become one of the top two goaltenders in
Atlanta. He has been impressive in stints with the Finnish national team
and is coming off a good seaosn in the AHL, where he led the Chicago Wolves
to the Calder Cup." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 115)
"[W]hen Hnilicka stumbled as a starter and the
Thrashers went winless in their first 10 games, Nurminen became the man,
finishing with a respectable goals-against average and save percentage."
(The Sporting News Hockey Yearbook 2003-04, p. 24)
"Nurminen has great reflexes and relies on his athleticism - a combination
that often makes difficult saves look run-of-the-mill. Unfortunately, Nurminen
suffered a serious knee injury that forced him to announce his retirement. With
countryman Kari Lehtonen on the verge of stardom,
Nurminen wasn't going to play a lot anyway." (The Sports Forecaster 2005-06, p.
103)

DID YOU KNOW?
- On February 11, 2004, with 1:49 remaining in their 5-1 loss to Edmonton, Pasi met with Oilers goaltender Ty Conklin
for a center-ice fight as part of a six-on-six brawl. "I had a couple of dances in the minors, but this is the first time in the NHL," Nurminen
said. "It's always fun...give a couple punches, take a couple punches...feel alive...that's what it is. At the point we were behind by three
goals already, so I didn't think it made any difference." Of course, since Atlanta starter Byron Dafoe had already left
the game due to a groin injury, the Thrashers skated the final time with six skaters and no goalies.
