WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

"Yes, believe it, another top goaltending prospect for the Flyers. Known for his quick glove hand, Nittymaki had a superb rookie season with TPS Turku's senior club, winning the Finnish championship. The Flyers think he is ready for the AHL now and expect him to be the Phantoms' backup this season." (The Sports Forecaster 2000-01, p. 104)

"Much of this year for the 20-year-old goalie was spent completing his Finnish Army stint, so Nittymaki's numbers are for last year. Even so, "we still think of him as a real good prospect," Holmgren said. "We have to make a decision at some point whether to bring him over this summer." The Flyers like his quick reflexes, although they would like to see him play further out of net." (Wayne Fish, The Hockey News Future Watch 2001)

"The young netminder's second season in the Finnish elite league wasn't as smooth as the first. However, the Flyers are still very high on Nittymaki, yet another outstanding netminding prospect in the organization. He has played well at the international level. His best assets in goal are unbelievable reflexes and athleticism." (The Sports Forecaster 2001-02, p. 106)

"Completed his military service and can now focus on hockey." (Wayne Fish, The Hockey News Future Watch 2002)

"The 22-year-old Nittymaki finally made it over from Finland, but found he needed a period of adjustment. He had a tendency to stay too far back in the net, a common European trait, and he's being instructed to challenge the shooter more now. "He's learning to recognize that shots are coming from all (angles) in North America," [Philadelphia assistant HM Paul] Holmgren said. Nittymaki has great flexibility - he can stretch from outside one post to outside the other." (Wayne Fish, The Hockey News Future Watch 2003, p. 31)

"Nittymaki had an outstanding season with TPS Turku, finishing with a goals-against average of 1.84 and a save percentage of .937. The Flyers showed some faith in his when they dealt their other top prospect in goal, Maxime Ouellet, for Adam Oates and then dealt young Brian Boucher in the Michal Handzus trade. Nittymaki has been highly thought of for years now and rebounded nicely from an average season the previous year." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 104)

"Now 25, Niittymaki is ready for the NHL game. During the lockout, he performed spectacularly well once again with the AHL's Phantoms (59 GP, 2.07 GAA, .924 Sv%). He's the Flyers' goaltender of the future, but the future may be now. Should start at backup but will compete with Robert Esche throughout 2005-06." (The Sports Forecaster 2005-06, p. 103)
