It's interesting to notice Mike's career path - why did he leave professional hockey to become a Canadian university goaltender? Here's an interesting excerpt from the Toronto Star (Wayne Parrish, December 12, 1984): "The name may evoke only a vague memory today, but for three charmed weeks a few years back, Mike Moffat was the toast of the National Hockey League.
He had spent the entire winter of 1981-82 playing junior hockey in Kingston when Boston Bruins summoned him to play the final two regular-season games. The club won both and the kid went on to start in goal for all 11 playoff contests; he was outstanding, even when the Bruins lost the seventh game of their quarterfinal series to Quebec Nordiques, 2-1.
At that point it was reasonable to assume a brilliant NHL career was under way. In fact, it was all but over.
The next fall, Moffat struggled from the outset. After 13 games, he was sent to the minors to collect himself. He never did. In 47 American Hockey League outings over the next two years, Moffat's goals-against average was 4.79. Dealt to Edmonton last summer, he was in goal for the Oilers' AHL farm team when it lost its season opener, 9-0. The next day, Moffat quit hockey.
At 22, he had had enough - of the pressure, of his inability to adjust to it, most of all the nervous attacks that left him with chronic headaches and perpetual insomnia."
