• Selected by Pittsburgh Penguins (fourth Penguins choice, 102nd overall) during National Hockey League Amateur Draft, 1977.
• Signed as free agent by Hartford Whalers, June 15, 1981. Published reports indicated that Millen received a $75,000 bonus and a salary of $160,000 per year to sign with Hartford. As compensation, arbitrator Joseph Kane awarded W Pat Boutette and W Kevin McClelland to the Penguins on June 29 of the year. Millen had played out his option in Pittsburgh, and the clubs could not agree on adequate compensation. The Whalers reportedly had offered goaltender John Garrett and W Jordy Douglas, but the Penguins wanted Boutette and McClelland.

DID YOU KNOW?

• Greg's professional career was almost over before it began. Cut by Kalamazoo of the International League after giving up fourteen goals in three games in 1977, he went home thinking that an NHL career was out of the question. Millen enrolled at the University of Guelph and decided to play as an overage junior with Sault Ste. Marie. He did so well that the Penguins brought him in the following season to back up Denis Herron.
• With the 1980-81 Pittsburgh Penguins, Greg played in every minute of every game for twenty-six consecutive contests.
• In December of 1988, Greg recorded a shutout streak of 184:47, including three consecutive shutouts, for the St. Louis Blues.
• While with the Hartford Whalers, Greg was a member of the Waterbury Shelter Committee for the Homeless.
