- In prep school, Steve earned a total of ten letters in football, hockey, golf and soccer.
- Steve majored in Chemical Engineering at the University of Minnesota.
- In the 1979 NCAA National Championship game, Steve made thirty-four saves as the University of Minnesota defeated the Univeristy of North Dakota by a 4-3 count.
- In the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, Steve was the only player on any team that didn't play a single second of any game. "Yeah, a lot of people don't even know I was there, which is just fine," Janaszak admits now. "That's what I tell people. I had the best seat in the house there, timing the shifts for [head coach] Herb [Brooks]. And making sure I don't spill my tea." (Jim Huber, SI.com)
