Ottawa franchise transferred to Toronto, May 1973.

Gilles' brother, Norm Gratton, played a total of 201 regular-season National Hockey League games, with the Rangers, Flames, Sabres, and North Stars.
After St. Louis' game vs. the Islanders on November 28, 1975, Gilles walked out on the club and refused to report. The Blues placed him on their "voluntarily retired" list, and blocked his attempt to resign with the WHA Toronto Toros.
Gratton believed in reincarnation, and once refused to play due to a sore leg injured during the Franco-Prussian war in a previous life.
On one occasion, Gilles skated around the ice during practice in only his skates and his mask.
