MISCELLANEOUS:
DID YOU KNOW?
- George made his National Hockey League debut on March 20, 1966, when Detroit's starter, Roger Crozier, was injured.
Gardner allowed just one goal as the Wings defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs, 6-1.
- In 1966-67, George played with the Memphis Wings of the Central Hockey League. In lieu of an apartment,
George lived at a mansion owned by an ex-teammate's mother, and for the small price of $40 per month, had a
maid and butler at his disposal, and arrived at the rink in a chauffeur-driven limousine.
- George required corrective lenses to see properly, and was afraid that he would be released if this fact was
discovered. He solved this problem by memorizing the eye charts each fall before his physical. Vancouver finally
caught him by switching eye charts on the morning of the exam.
