On December 15, 1925, Jake played against the Montreal Canadiens in the first-ever National Hockey League game played in New York City.
On January 13, 1931, Jake was loaned to the Philadelphia Quakers to replace an injured Wilf Cude. The Quakers lost to the Montreal Canadiens, 2-1. Four days later, Forbes played again for the Quakers, losing to Detroit, 5-2.
