- Sara beat out Erin Whitten for one of the goaltending spots on the 1998 United States Olympic team.
- Playing for Toll Gate High School in Warwick, Sara was the first female to compete in Rhode Island's top high school scholastic division. Aside from hockey, she lettered in soccer and softball in high school.
- As a high school senior, Sara and her school shut out powerful Mount St. Charles Academy, the first time the team had been shut out in eighteen years.
