WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:
"Anchorage native is undefeated (2-0-0) in four games at the NHL level."
(Rob Tychkowski, The Hockey News Future Watch 2002)
"Conklin had a tremendous first pro season, posting incredible numbers
in a brief four-game stint with the Oilers and then posting a .916 save
percentage and a 2.61 goals-against average with Hamilton in the AHL."
(The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 177)
"He just had minor knee surgery and could be out until early March, but was
having a solid season otherwise. The only hiccup has been the inability to get
him an appropriate workload in Hamilton, given that he has been sharing the
crease with Montreal's No. 1 prospect, Mathieu Garon
for most of the season. Because Garon's recent callup after the
Jeff Hackett trade should be a permanent move,
Conklin will be the Bulldogs' workhorse down the stretch. He's not big at
5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, but is similar to Tommy Salo
and Jussi Markkanen in quickness and ability to
read the play. He has played well in his brief NHL appearances." (Robert
Tychkowski, The Hockey News Future Watch 2003, p. 26)
"The Alaska native has emerged as one of the United States' top goaltenders on
the national scale, which should boost Conklin's confidence going forward. He
split duties with Finnish veteran Jussi Markkanen
in 2003-04 and, barring a major turn of events, should again do battle with him
for playing time. Slight edge to Conklin." (The Sports Forecaster 2005-06, p. 99)

DID YOU KNOW?
- On November 22, 2003, at Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium, Ty and
Montreal's Jose Theodore were the goaltenders
in the first regular-season National Hockey League game to be held outdoors.
Conklin and the Oilers fell to the Canadiens, 4-3.
- On February 11, 2004, with 1:49 remaining, Ty and Atlanta goaltender Pasi Nurminen squared off
at centre ice as part of a six-on-six brawl. "We had good control in the game, and it got rough and everybody just stuck together,
so it was really good," Conklin said. "I didn't really think about (fighting Nurminen), it was mutual, and we just met at center ice."
Conklin was ejected, and Tommy Salo completed the 5-1 win for the Oilers.
- On January 1, 2008, at Buffalo's Ralph Wilson Stadium, Ty was the Pittsburgh Penguins' goaltender in the
"Winter Classic", the first National Hockey League game played outdoors in the United States. Ty and the Penguins
defeated Ryan Miller and the hometown Sabres in a shootout.
- On February 26, 2008, Ty and the Penguins were outshot by a 52-21 margin, but defeated the New York Islanders, 4-2.
