FIRSTS:

Peter made his National Hockey League debut, and earned his first league victory, on October 8, 2005. Budaj's Colorado Avalanche were at the American Airlines Center in Dallas to face the Stars, who jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the second on a goal from Jere Lehtinen. After the Avalanche scored twice to take the lead, Brenden Morrow scored again against Budaj to tie things. However, fellow Colorado rookie Marek Svatos saved the day, scoring with 1:57 remaining to seal the 3-2 Colorado win. Budaj finished with sixteen saves on the night.
Peter's first National Hockey League shutout occurred on Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Denver's Pepsi Center. The Calgary Flames were in town to face the Avalanche, and Budaj stopped all thirty-three Calgary shots for the 3-0 victory. The shutout lifted Colorado into first place in the Northwest Division. Budaj made seveal acrobatic saves over the afternoon, including ones on Sean Donovan and Jarome Iginla from in front of the crease.
