WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

"Budaj has had a solid year. He started the season sharing starting assignments, but now has claimed the No. 1 job. He has a strong World Junior Championship for Slovakia. Budaj has made strides in continuing to develop the skills that will help take the next step. Budaj has good quickness, sound technical skills, quick lateral movement and a good glove hand." (Jim Benton, The Hockey News Future Watch 2002)

"Budaj had an outstanding year in the OHL, recording the top goals-against average of 2.29 and the top save percentage, .922. He also split time with Peter Hamerlik for Slovakia at the 2002 WJC. Budaj can stay in junior next season or graduate to pro." (The Sports Forecaster 2002-03, p. 172)

"The Slovak netminder has done a good job with the Bears as Sauve's backup. What the Avalanche likes most about its first pick in the 2001 draft is his desire. "He really wants to be a top player," said chief scout Jim Hammett. "He has got the attitude that he'll do whatever it takes and that's good to see."" (Adrian Dater, The Hockey News Future Watch 2003, p. 24)

"The Avalanche were so convinced Budaj is ready for the NHL that they dealt 2003-04 backup Philippe Sauve to division-rival Calgary. The 22-year-old Budaj has enough long-range potential to be considered the organization's goaltender of the future. The Slovakian could challenge David Aebischer down the road." (The Sports Forecaster 2005-06, p. 99)
