• After his retirement, Baz became the head coach of the AHL's Pittsburgh Hornets in 1950, winning three Calder Cups with the club.
• Baz became the general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1977.
• Early in the morning on March 15, 1983, Bastien was driving home from a Penguins-sponsored dinner with a blood-alcohol level of 0.26%. Driving at 80 miles per hour, Bastien's car hit a motorcycle carrying two passengers. Half an hour later, Bastien passed away from a heart attack and skull fracture as a result of the accident. Fortunately, both motorcycle passengers survived with minor injuries.
